Pseudofolliculitis Barbae

Treatments: topical medication, laser hair reduction

Pseudofolliculitis barbae is a genetically-determined condition that prevents hair from growing out properly after being shaved too close to the skin's surface. It more commonl affects people with thick curly hair.

Eventually, the natural recoil of the hair after shaving leads to inflammation in the hair follicle and may result in scarring. Medical treatment is available to treat inflammation (early bumps). Avoidance of close shaving was the only preventative measure for years, yet laser hair reduction now provides another effective approach.

Lasers that target hair do not only permanently reduce the hair but also assure that residual hair is less coarse. Both the beard area and the hairline above the neck can be treated.

What can we do better?

(answers:373)

Complain to the insurance industry that they cove too little, complain to the product manufactures that they truely charge too much for the products. I feel that the industry in general is very slow to treat because of insurance allowances. Patients have busy work schedules and pay for monthly coverage that covers too little. In one hour or less could do what multiple appointments do to remove or treat small skin defects require many visits. Should provide payment better incentives.

#12010-11-10 12:28:11

I'm sending my whole family here. It's wonderful.

#22025-10-22

No complaints - overall best experience at any dermatologist.

#32011-09-27 12:59:17

Almost too methodical - thought of one more 15 second type question after Dr. left re one spot not noted - would have waited some time to have her look at it. Told no time until lunch.

#42011-11-03 10:28:10

Coffee, Tea? only kidding. Hope I gave the reader a smile today.

#52011-02-21 10:56:55

I'm speechless!! I make a living at answering this very question but I can't recommend anything you can do to provide better service. You deserve a high score in all aspects of the practice. One minor detail - I have not yet seen the aesthetician and I have limited experience with you. Maybe patients could complete a survey after they've had a couple of appointments and contact with others. Some valuable feedback may be provided. Oops....I just heard an administrator use the word "cancellation" with a patient. May I suggest other terms like "change in the schedule" or "we'll make time for you". Wouldn't want to give patients the idea that it's ok to cancel. :-) Can you recommend a vascular specialist closer to the area than in Center City?

#62011-06-02 14:18:32

Everything was great

#72010-11-04 12:31:22
