Buttock augmentation using fat transfer involves removing unwanted fat from another area of the body and injecting it into the buttocks to improve its size, shape, or profile. Unlike augmenting the buttock with implants, there is no risk of rejection, movement, or visibility of the implant beneath the skin, or an unnatural look or feel. By using fat harvested from the patient’s own body, the most natural results can be achieved.
There are two primary steps in buttock augmentation using fat transfer – liposuction and fat injection. Once a local anesthetic has been injected, our doctor makes tiny incisions in the area where fat is being removed. Common locations include the abdomen, flanks, and thighs. The doctor then inserts a tiny thin tube, called a cannula, through the incision, gently suctioning excess fat from the targeted area.
Next, the removed fat, tissue, and blood are processed to obtain the pure fat material for the injections. Once our doctor has obtained the fat, she uses a special syringe to inject the fat into the buttocks. This is done by injecting fat at strategic locations on the buttocks based on the patient’s specific goals.
You should expect a small amount of swelling and bruising around the liposuction and injection sites.
This should dissipate naturally over the coming weeks. After the procedure, you will be given specific instructions for your recovery, which may include:
While the results of buttock augmentation are immediately visible, swelling in the treated area may make it difficult to see the results. In addition, it can take up to a year for your body to fully accept the injected fat. Once the fat has been incorporated into the area, the results look and feel very natural. Some loss of volume is to be expected, as the body will absorb a portion of the fat. Most of our patients retain about 80% of the injected fat. You should also be aware that weight loss or gain can affect fullness in the area.
Candidates for buttock augmentation using fat transfer typically have one or more of the following goals:
In order to undergo buttocks augmentation using this method, there must be a sufficient amount of unwanted fat on another part of the body. Candidates must also be in good overall health and have realistic expectations for the procedure.
